April 18, 2007 Christie’s New York included a 3 inch high carnelian Fabergé scent flask in the form of a gnome made for the wife of Tsar Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra, and sold for $1.38 million, four times its top estimate.

Popular Press

A series of newspaper articles were published in mid-April announcing the sale and possible use of the trade name Fabergé, which is currently owned by the international company Unilever. When the involved parties make an official announcement, it will be shared in an issue of this newsletter.

Lopato, Marina. The Jewellers of Old St.Petersburg (Yuveliry Starogo Peterburga), St.Petersburg, 2006. (ISBN 5-93572-232-1 in Russian) includes a chapter devoted to the House of Fabergé.

On the Turn of Century. The Art of Art Nouveau Epoch. St.Petersburg, 2006. (ISBN 5-93572-227-5 in Russian) includes an article entitled, "Faberge and Art Nouveau" (pp. 89-97) by Dr. Marina Lopato of the Hermitage Museum.

Recent Discoveries

Provenances for a diamond-set brooch and an Imperial bell push by Fabergé were discovered recently by Wartski, London.
