Instruments I Play
Here are the instruments that I play or tinker with:
-
Guitar (acoustic)
This is my main instrument to play. I do most of my performances with
a guitar.
-
Dulcimer
This is a remarkable instrument of unknown origin. Because of the way
it is tuned and the way the frets are set, it is a very easy instrument
to learn how to play. I recommend this instrument for anyone who wants
to learn an easy stringed instrument. Even though it is easy, that doesn't
mean that it isn't capable. One can play (with experience) chords and complex
strums. The instrument usually sits on one's lap. This instrument is my
second most used instrument for performing.
-
Mandolin
The plucked kin to the violin. This instrument is tuned just like a
violin. However, it has four pairs of strings (for a total of eight strings).
Each pair is plucked as if it were one string. The instrument is used mostly
in bluegrass and country but it is finding uses in other types of music
as well.
-
Balalaika
This three string instrument comes from Russia. It sounds somewhat
like a mandolin. I need to do more playing on this instrument.
-
Keyboards
-
I use these mostly for doing neat sounding music or composing. However,
I intend to learn how to play keyboards better as time goes on.
