Susan St. James, Jessica Lange, Jane Curtin in How to Beat the High Cost of Living (1979)This low key comedy quickly vanished from the screens after poor reviews. It concerns three housewives who, desperate for cash, plot to rob a local mall that is sponsoring a cash giveaway contest. Viewed today, the film is mildly amusing, and has some loyal fans. Susan Saint James and Jane Curtin went on to star in the hit television series Kate and Allie. Lange, who plays Richard Benjamin's wife, looks ravishing and shows some of the comic talent that she would expose to greater audiences in Tootsie, a few years later.
