Local Services
Partnership's volunteer board of directors works closely with all programs. The board,
comprised of key community leaders, provides resources, materials and in kind service.
- Parenting education classes are provided to the residents of the Huntsville
Housing Authority. Trained educators teach residents numerous skills such as communication,
discipline, AIDS awareness, proper nutrition, and drug education. These six week classes
are available whenever requested by the Huntsville Housing Authority.

- Working in conjunction with Huntsville Housing Authority, Partnership established
monthly town forums at Mason Court, Searcy Homes, and Council Court. Key community
leaders worked with the residents to inform them of services provided to families in need.

- In conjunction with the Madison County Mental Health Center, six week educational
classes are provided to high-risk youth by professional drug educators. Classes are
taught at the Huntsville Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, the African-American Churches,
Meadow Hills, Harris Home, Oakwood Academy, Berkley Community Center, and Alabama A&M.
Sessions include goal setting, communication skills, self-esteem building, and drug education.

- The Huntsville Parents Coalition for Healthy Teens, comprised mostly of Southeast
Huntsville parents, meets on a monthly basis to discuss and learn solutions to drug abuse.
Partnership administers this service and provides literature and speakers.

- The Parents Resource Center, a division of the Partnership, provides workshops
on a quarterly basis to all families in Huntsville. The 2 1/2 hour workshops consist of topics
which include identification of drugs, legal ramifications and treatment providers.

- "How to Avoid the Party Trap" is comprised of Huntsville City high school students
who meet with local PTA parents to discuss violence and drugs in the schools. Parents find
this service highly informative and revealing.

- Teen Forums, an annual program, consisting of a coalition of Huntsville City high
school students discussing youth issues with middle school students.

- An up-to-date library consisting of brochures, videos, books, and magazines is
available at no charge to all residents in Huntsville.

- "Brown Bag Seminars" have been conducted at over 25 corporations in the community.
The video "How to Raise a Drug-Free Child", speakers, and literature are provided at no cost
during the lunch hour. This service is provided on an annual basis.

- "Smoke, Choke, Eventually Croak", an anti-tobacco program is taught to 3rd graders
in Huntsville and Madison County Schools.

- "Think! Don't Drink", an anti-alcohol program is taught to 4th graders in Huntsvile
and Madison County Schools.

- "Mac's Choice", a 3rd grade drug prevention storybook, is taught to students
throughout Huntsville and Madison County Schools.

- The Red Ribbon Campaign, a national drug awareness campaign, is held yearly at the
Madison County Courthouse. Hundreds of youth and adults wrap the courthouse with a red
cellophane ribbon.

- As a member of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Partnership distributes
television and radio public service announcements to all media outlets. Partnership also
coordinated the television specials, "My Choice - Drug Free", "The Tennessee Valley Fights
Back", and "They're All Our Kids".
