Significant Sites

The World's Columbian Exposition: Idea, Experience, Aftermath.
Residing at http://xroads.virginia.edu/~MA96/WCE/title.html, this site is a hypertextual thesis presented to the Graduate Faculty of the University of Virginia in Candidacy for the Degree of Master of Arts, (Department of English, Concentration in American Studies) by a talented Julie K. Rose. The site is very well done, is extremely polished, and is well worthy of it's having been chosen as the Yahoo! of the Day 11.14.96. It would not be unreasonable to expect that as this site becomes further known of that it will gather additional accolades.

Interactive Guide to the World's Columbian Exposition
This site was created by Mr. Bruce R. Schulman, a talented 6th grade teacher at Nathaniel Alexander Elementary School at Governors' Village, in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) school system. Thus as it may well be expected, this site presents a lot of information on the fair in a well organized and easy to read manner. A visit here will quickly bring one understanding as to the full size, scope and architectural impact of the Fair.

Smaller Sites/Sites of Special or Limited Interest

The World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 Collection
The Harold Washington Library Center of Chicago, Illinois presents one page identifying the event of the Columbian Exposition and identifies that the library holds the World's Columbian Exposition Collection, in the Special Collections & Preservation Division of the Chicago Public Library. The Chicago Public Library provides another one page reference at Chicago Historical Information, -The Columbian Exposition.

The World's Columbian Exposition Of 1893 This is an opening page to a site that is a senior thesis project of a student at Miami University's Western College, who can only be identified as N. Jones who declares it is designed to teach the legacy of the World's Columbian Exposition. This site may well be in the process of being constructed for only half the links on it work and several pages contain significant html errors. Currently, the best part of this site is it's Gif Index, a cross reference page which provides access to twenty-six photos.

The History of Roloff Porcelain Design
This site is presented by the Roloff Porcelain Design company which specializes in hand painted Porcelain and China, Ceramic and Glass. While the Roloff site is interesting enough in its own right, it deserves special interest from students of the Columbian Exposition, because it identifies the birth of the "American style" of porcelain painting in the 1800's and higlights the life and contributions of one Mr. George Leykauf whos work won awards and plaudits at the Fair and greatly affected the direction of porcelain art in America. The site presents a fascinating history of one mans artistic struggle as well as some stunning photos of his work.

The Internet 1996 World Exposition provides us a brief but fact filled look back in thier At the Chicago World's Fair.
