Camilla Scott

A childhood dream of becoming a dancer helped propel this native Torontonian to fame as an actress, singer, and now talk show host.

Camilla Scott was once an awkward, overweight teenager with a cashier job at a local Dominion store. After watching another overweight teen at her Etibiocoke high school overcome obesity, Camilla resolved to do likewise and eventually achieved her goal of a healthy lifestyle. She never dreamed that she would become a physical fitness role model, who is proficient in horseback riding and other sports.

Determined to achieve her dream, Camilla moved out to Los Angeles where, besides going through two earthquakes, a mugging, and the riots, landed the role of Melissa Anderson, opposite actor Billy Hufsey, on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Within two years, the show was floundering, with NBC thinking about canceling it. Cast members were bailing out for better jobs, and when co-star Hufsey left, the network did not know what to do with her character, and Camilla's contract was not renewed. She was actually relieved at this turn of events; the situation had become stressful and frustrating. Camilla found herself waiting tables while deciding what to do.

She returned home and auditioned for a part in the Gershwin tribute musical, Crazy for You. She could swing and dance with the best of them, but casting director Stephanie Gorham knew her dancing was not up to professional standards. Despite this setback, Camilla took on a hectic routine of 17 dance classes a week for three months. After two months, her persistence paid off and Camilla won the coveted of Polly, which won her critical acclaim over its two-year run at the Royal Alexandria Theatre in Toronto.

Camilla kept busy acting in a variety of guest spots in television shows such as Adderly, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, and RoboCop, to name a few. She also appeared in the movies Tommy Boy and Three Men and a Baby.

After watching Camilla in a live interview in 1995, Dini Petty producer Jordan Schwartz saw potential in this energetic actress and gave her the opportunity of a lifetime -- her own talk show. The Camilla Scott Show was broadcast nationally across Canada. Camilla loved doing the talk show, which at times was compared to the U.S. talk show, The Ricki Lake Show.

While working on her talk show, Camilla also played RCMP Inspector Margaret Thatcher in the popular TV series Due South. Even when the show was cancelled, and then renewed a year later, Camilla was able to juggle her busy schedule to complete the final season of the Mountie show.

In 1998, her talk show came to an end. However, Camilla isn't one to rest on her laurels. She was busy doing guest shots in various television series, and shot the pilot for Camilla & Christopher at the Mall, a talk show filmed at a New York mall. She shared co-hosting duties with Discovery Channel program host Christopher Lowell.

Although Camilla has her hands full with her acting and hosting, she still finds time to devote to singing. She gave up her Christmas hiatus from the 'Mountie show' to appear on stage as Princess Apricot Crumble in the panto Jack in the Beanstalk in 1997, and did likewise in 1998 when she appeared in the play Aladdin. She frequently sings the national anthem at baseball games, and showed her vocal talents to a much larger audience when she sang the U.S. national anthem in the Due South episode "Doctor Longball."

During 1999, she devoted her considerable talents to playing the lead role in a new production of The Pajama Game, where she portrayed Babe Williams, the independent shop steward who clashes with management. The play ended in late July 1999.

Recent Years

Camilla has guest-starred in several television programs, but she appears to be focusing on stage work. She is a regular in productions in Ontario and New York.

Camilla also selflessly devotes her time to charity work, such as the Miracles in Motion fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation Telethon, Bell Mobility's Celebrity Fashion Show (for Junior Achievement), and the 28th annual Purina Animal Hall of Fame awards (which awards pets for saving the lives of their owners).

To relax from her busy schedule, Camilla enjoys reading novels and watching her favorite television shows. She also enjoys spending time with her long-time love and husband, actor Paul Eves (married July 22, 2002), their son Jack (born in January 2005), and two Maltese dogs: Buster and Bogart.

At one time, Camilla did have a British passport (her mother is Canadian, and her father is from Glasgow).
