Pizzas and Promises

Hi there. My review is for "Pizzas and Promises." In this episode, Fraser and Ray help a young man named Lenny after his car is stolen in front of Fraser's apartment while making a pizza delivery for the boys. It so happens that the same used car lot where Lenny purchased the car is stealing it back for illegal purposes. So it's up to the guys to find out what's going on. The funny parts are when both Fraser and Ray go undercover as used car salesmen at the same lot. But it's Fraser (naturally), who has a hard time staying in character to slove the case. He's not the type who would sell used cars. My favorite parts are when Fraser is being seduced by the lot's wife, and trying to fight it as only he can. Also, I like the part when Francesca purposely breaks out of Ray's routine by buying the stolen Comet at a very high price. She later says that she did this because Ray killed her hamster years ago. I liked this episode because it stayed with the formula Due South had when it first started. Tape this episode only for the best parts I mentioned, or if you want to add it for your own collection.

Poor Ray, that things he's learned from his life possess him to take it out on a pizza delivery guy.

Poor Fraser, that his good intentions nearly go horribly awry.

Poor Dief, that he's the object of Fraser's intentions.

And, Lord help her, poor Frannie - that she isn't the object of Fraser's intentions!

I think this is one of the dS eps that needs to be watched a bunch of times - so you can see what you missed when you were aghast with laughter? Notice how this series brings out multiple emotional reactions in viewers simultaneously. There are so many 'reactions' so well performed by every character in this ep, the technical bloopers can be more than forgiven, and it's so filled with dS classics it's hard to choose what to say about it!

Reaction No. 1 by our man Ray - "UN-MUSH! UN-MUSH!" (To explain further would spoil if you haven't seen the ep.)

Reaction No. 2 by street people - to Fraser and Ray on a foot search. (Again, to say more would spoil.)

Reaction No. 3 by Elaine - "You're good," to OFM's idea of inconspicuous interrogation.

Reaction No. 4 by us, the viewing audience - to Billy Bob Fraser, used car salesman.

Reaction No. 5 by Tammy Markles - to Billy Bob Fraser, used car salesman.

Reaction No. 6 by a young female customer - to Billy Bob Fraser, used car salesman. (Am I repeating myself?)

Reaction No. 7 by Billy Bob Fraser - to Tammy Markles' idea that Billy Bob Fraser has what it takes to become employee of the month. (And if anyone can come up with just one adjective to describe the facial expression that PG conjures up for that moment, I'll pay good money. If it must be two adjectives, I'll send flowers. Any more than that - a TYK will have to do.)

Reaction No. 8 by Gary - to a speeding stolen car.

Reaction No. 9 by Lenny - to why God gave us grappling hooks.

Reaction No. 10 by us to Frannie - WARDROBE?! HAMSTER?!

Reaction No. 11 by Our Favorite Penguin - to the Fox, uh - I mean Frannie. SHRIMP?! ESCARGOT?!

Reaction No. 12 by Gary after gunfire - his plaque gets chipped?!

Reaction No. 13 by Tammy Markles - she's "disappointed".

Reaction No. 14 and the clincher goes to our man Ray - to Fraser's explanation of plans and when changes are made. Or is it vice versa - Fraser's reaction to Ray changing the plan.

And an honorable mention to a reaction we never see - we just have to trust that Ray and his 'butt' know Lt. Welsh well. (Sorry!)

This ep could have been too silly but all the actors and certainly staff and crew made it fun with heart. I hadn't seen Patrick McKenna (Gary) in THE RED GREEN SHOW and had to race to the internet to be sure I wasn't hallucinating when I did. And the 'all original music' - the Three J's and company are masters at giving instruments voices that speak the "words" for the feelings there aren't words to describe:

TWANG.....BYOIING.....PLINNNGG.....

I liked this ep and I love this show.
