================================================================================= Extracts Caldwell Co,KY,Court Order Books B1 and C, 1815: ================================================================================= Caldwell County,Kentucky, Court Order Book B1, 1815: Book B1, 1815: Octr. 1815, p. 438-- Forty feet Square of Post and Rail,- upon a vote being taken the court were unanimously in favour of the Motion. [The following entry was crossed out]: "Ordered that Arthur H. DAVIS, Colo. Wm. BIRDSONG and John H. PHELPS Or any two of them be appointed Commissioners to let to the lowest Bidder the building of a Courthouse Jail & Stray Pen at the Place now contemplated for the Erection of the public buildings for this County, Who are to meet at the house of James RUCKER Senr. on the Saturday Previous to the fourth Monday in next month & proceed to the Same, & Report to the next term of this court. One third of the amt. of the Sum undertakers fee to be paid Out of next County levy and the ballance in two annual payments out of the levy." Ordered that Solomon K. CHANDLER, Daniel JARROT and Jos CHANDLER be appointed Commissioners to View and mark a road the nearest & most Convenient Way from Eddyville to the place commonly calld. Rosses ferry So as to meet the road from the mouth of Cumberland to the Same place & Report the Conveniences & Inconveniences therof &c. & c. Ordered that Blake BAKER, Hugh McWATERS Thos GREER Arthur JENKINS and Wm. THETFORD or any three of them being first Sworn do View and mark out a road [con'd p. 439] p. 439-- the nearest & best Way from Blake BAKERs farm on the North side of Cumberland River to Thos GREERs horse mill crossing the River at the ferry of David OSBORN Esqr. and Report &c &c Ordered that Arthur H DAVIS Colo. William BIRDSONG and John H. PHELPS be appointed Commissioners to let to the lowest Bidder the building of a Courthouse of Brick thirty six feet Square of the Model and description of the present One now in Eddyville, and to be finished in as good a manner as was Contemplated for that to have been finished, a Jail of Stone thirty by Twenty feet two Story high with doors locks &c. &c. in a good Strong Workmanlike manner, also a Stray Pen of Post and Rails of Oak Timber or other durable timber forty feet Square in Workman (sic) Manner, at the place now Contemplated for the erection of the public buildings for this County, With power to make any necessary alter- ations as form or finishing the inside work of the Courthouse Court Clks Table Judges Seat or Attorneys' bar or Sheriffs boxes &c. On Motion of Richard SWOR and it appearing to the Satis- faction of the court by the affidavit of Vincent ANDERSON and George D RANDALL that he (was at the time of the Passage of a law authorizing the appropriation of the vacant lands in this Common- wealth approvd. Feby 6th 1815.) an actual Settler on four Hundred acres of Vacant land in Caldwell County on Tennessee River adjoining the lands of John ADAM on the north which he claims to appropriate and which is ordered to be certified to the Register of the land office of Ky. No. 39. On Motion of George RANDALL and it appearing to the Satis- faction of the Court by affidavit of Vincent ANDERSON and Richd. SWOR that he (was at the time of the Passage of a law authorizing the appropriation of the vacant lands in this Commonwealth approvd. Feby 6th 1815.) an actual Settler on four Hundred acres of vacant lands in the County of Caldwell on Tennessee River adjoining the lands of Micajah MIDGETT On the north side Which he claims to appropriate and which is Ordered to be certified to the Regr. L Office &c. No. 40 On Motion of Mary GREER and it appearing to the Satisfaction of the Court by the affidavit [con'd p. 6] p. 6-- of David JAMES that She was at the time of the Passage of a law authorizing the appropriation of the Vacant lands in this Common- wealth approvd. Feby 6th 1815 an actual Settler on four Hundred acres of Vacant land in Caldwell County on Waters of Tennessee River Which She claims to appropriate & which is ordered to be certified to the Register of the land Office of Ky. Com v Wm GARDNER & Tarlton RATTON? for not giving in their lists of Taxable property to the Commissioner appd. to take them in. On hearing their Excuse it is ordered that [they] pay the Costs accrued theron & be discharged. On motion of Vincent ANDERSON and it appearing to the Satisfaction of the Court that Stands chd. in the Tax list of 1814 with One Poll tax Improperly which is orderd to be certified &c.
