NEWSOM
In the
year 1900, an old family Bible of Robert T. Moore's was in the possession
of Mary Louisa Blain Newsom of Caldwell Co. KY according to a Civil War
document. I have tracked down one of Louisa Newsom's descendants who
tells me that he believes the Bible was in the possession of Fannie
Newsom when she died in Caldwell in 1977. He believes it may have been
sold or disposed of with her estate. If anyone has any information about
this Bible, please contact me by email or mail. This bible belonged to
my ancestors and I would love to at least see what information is in it.
Thanks!

DARNALL
I am
researching Thomas & Elizabeth Darnall's family. They arrived in
Caldwell before 1820 and both died in October of 1840.
I know the names of 8 of their 9 children. I recently discovered they
have one more boy from the 1830 and 1840 census. This boy would have
been born between 1825 and 1830. I am assuming that he died right before
the parents did in 1840 because there is a record listing the surviving
children and this boy is not mentioned anywhere. The names of the
survivng children are Elijah, Mary Polly, Sarah Sally, James Madison,
Caroline, Willis, David (born Sep 1824), Stallard (born in 1827).
Any help in finding out more of this boy would be appreciated.

After finding Francis M. Keating and his wife Martha in the 1850 and 1860

William W b. 1851, James J b. 1853, Lucinda b. 1856 and Milton b. 1856
Francis and Martha appear to have died before 1870 as daughter Lucinda
(b. 1856) is living with her Uncle James Hopper and Aung Lucinda Johnston
Hoppper and and another family member is living with Thomas M. Lewis and
Prudence Caroline Hall and family in the 1870 census records.

KILGROW/KILGORE
The earliest known progenitor of the name Kilgrow/Kilgore, Elias W. Kilgrow was married to Martha Lollar in 1939. When she died he married her sister, Jane. These sisters were from Sparta, White Co. TN. There is record of him in Caldwell CO. in 1844 and buying and selling and applying for a tavern license. We don't know who his parents were. We have come across the name of William Kilgrow in the area around Caldwell CO. starting about 1920. We believe he is a brother or even the father of Elias. We have also come across the name of Eli Kilgore who was eastablished in the Elbow Cr. area of between the rivers at least by 1812 and most likely as much as 10 years earlier. Perry in 1833. Then Butler married a Mrs Sarah Perry in 1857. I have

Sarah was married to previously. When did Betsey die? Thank you for any

ASHBY
Two topics: 1) regarding Rev. Stephen Ashby,
and 2) looking for paid researcher
Hello,
I am trying to investigate a possible connection to the Rev. Stephen
Ashby, who died in 1831. His will, written in 1828, is recorded on page
433 of Will Book A in Caldwell Co., KY.
I am trying to determine if Sarah (UNKNOWN surname) who married a William
Butler between 1814 and 1819 in KY and later moved to Alabama
(Mississippi Territory) and, finally, to Texas is a daughter or
granddaughter of Stephen. Stephen's will reads, in part, "I also give
unto MALINDA MILLER, daughter of MARY MILLER my negro girl Mary and to my
SARAH my negro Girl Nancy." The Sarah who married William Butler
apparently inherited a female slave named Nancy. The Butlers and Ashbys
lived near each other in Christian Co., KY ca. 1813, and William and
Sarah Butler’s oldest son, b. 1819, was named Stephen A. Butler. Also,
the 1810 census shows a female under 10 years of age living in the Ashby
household; Sarah Butler was born ca. 1800. This is really a shot in the
dark, but you can see why I’m asking! Does anyone know if there are any
probate records, especially relating to the distribution of the estate
ca. 1833, filed in Caldwell Co.? I would be happy to pay a researcher to
look into this, and will be glad to provide what little additional
information I have.
Thanks so much,
Carol Todd

HALBERG
My
grandmother Lina (Lena) Kachelhofer HALBERG and her husband
Joseph Halberg lived in Princeton Caldwell Co, KY some part of
1875-1880. Three children, Theresa, Nellie, and Fanny were born
in Princeton, Ky during this time frame. In the 1880 U.S. census
Lina Halberg and one child, Fanny was recorded as living in
Princeton. She was listed as a widow in that census. She married my
grandfather, Ernest Winter (Wintter) in 1881 in Florence, AL. No mention
is made in the 1900 census of a child of the former marriage to Joseph
Halberg. I believe that Joseph Halberg and two or three children are
buried in or near Princeton. Is there a possibility for locating the
death certificates or burial site for this family or birth records of the
children? Any information will be grately appreciated.

VALENTINE
I
just got a death certificate for my great grandfather, Edward Valentine,

I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to see if they could find an
obituary for him in a local paper. I would pay a reasonable fee for your
trouble. I hope to make a trip back there next year, but I just can't
wait. I had been looking for info on him for years when I finally found
this death certificate, so I'm really excited. I thought I had lost track

moved to Caldwell just in the last year or so of his life.

WAGNER
Hi,
I am trying to find information on Charles Marion WAGNER's parents (he
would be Senior aft 1920). He was born 16 Jan 1890 in Caldwell Co. and
died there 23 Jul 1971. Charles' death certificate states his parents
are Marion WAGNER and Isabelle STAPLES, the information was provided by
Charles' wife (Abigail/Abbey DEASON).
In a 1920 Christian Co., Census, he list his parents as being born in
Kentucky.
In a 1880 Census, Todd Co., census, there is an Isabel STAPLES listed in
a family of William McKINNEY, she was listed as age 20 and being born in
Kentucky also as single. This would make her birth about 1860.
Then I found in Todd Co., an Isabelle WAGNER that died 16 Nov 1942, at
age 82, this would place her birth about 1860. It all seems to connect
that the Isabelle/Isabel STAPLES (WAGNER) is the one of the same. The
problem is I have NOT been able to connect her to any marriage, and not
with a Marion.
Any help with This pair would be appreciated.

TRAYLOR
Hi,
I am trying to find out any information on David Andrew Traylor. He was
born in 1873 in Kentucky. He is the son of Andrew Traylor b) Ky. & Jane
Dixon/Dickson b) Ky. That info, comes from his death certif. I have no
idea where in Kentucky any of them where born.
David Andrew, I have been told, was seen on a census prior to 1880 in
Caldwell Co., in the home of Andrew W. Traylor and Isabella Creekmur.
They did say he was not listed with them in 1880.
I don't know why he would be listed with the family of Andrew W. and
Isabella. His parents died shortly before or after. 1915. David's
daughters of which two are surviving, said that they where young when
David's parents died, and they did not know them. One daughter born in
1912 other 1915.
Any help with this puzzle, surely could be used. I am sure they are
related, but just can't figure out how.
Thanks,

GOODLET
My 3rd great-grand-parents were Sparten Goodlet and Elizabeth Langham.
They were married in Caldwell County in 1834. They were in the 1840
Census of Caldwell County with no Children. Elizabeth shows up in the
1850 census of Hamilton County, TN with their children, the oldest being
John William Goodlet, my 2nd great-grandfather. My query is about
Sparten's parents. I think they are Dr. John Goodlet, son of Adam
Goodlet who came from Scotland to Culpepper, Virginia in the 1770's and
later to Kentucky, and Rebecca Patterson, daughter of Col. Robert
Patterson of PA,but I have no documented proof. I found a reference to
Rebecca's obituary in a book titled "Kentucky Historical Society
Microfilm Catalog, Vol II, Excerpted Newspapers and Pertinent
Genealogical Material." The obituary was listed in THE COMMONWEALTH, she
died on Oct. 4, 1834 in Caldwell County. It added that the newspaper was
in Franklin County, KY. I am trying to get a copy of this obituary in
hopes that it will list Rebecca's children's names. Any help that anyone
there could give me in obtaining this obituary and any other Goodlet
information about this family, would be greatly appreciated.

DIED, on the night of the 14th inst. at his residence in Chesterfield,
after a short but severe illness, which he bore with great and exemplary
fortitude, Mr. Thomas Lafon, who early in life embraced the doctrines of
Christianity, and became a member of the Baptist Society in Virginia, and
has for many years been a preacher of the Gospel. A wife and eight
children are not all that have sustained an irreparable loss in the death
of this amiable man; but humanity ought to mourn, and will mourn, the
death of him whose hand was ever stretch'd out for the relief of the
unfortunate; and whose heart never felt a sentiment, but of universal
charity and good will. As the father of a family, as a neighbour, and a
friend, he stood preeminent; as a preacher of the gospel he was greatly
esteemed the doctrines which he had embraced with a tenderness and
fervour, that was irresistable; he rebuked with mildness; and whe he
council'd, his looks more than his words possessed a kind of eloquence,
that conveyed that council with force to every heart. His parting with
his weeping family and friends, was a tender and melancholy one; but
death had no terrors for a soul like his; even the placid smile of
universal phylanthropy which ever graced his countenance while living,
did not forsake it in passing through the valley of the shadow of death.
Ths is not intended as a tribute equal to his merits; for to pay that,
would be impossible.
Not these weak lines, but thy good d____ shall tell,
To after times, what now is known full well,
That thou, preeminent in faith, hast trod
The narrow path that leads (thro' life) to God.

EAST
I would like any information on Mary East and John East, heads of
households in Caldwell County in the 1810 census. Mary is also on the
1810 tax list for Caldwell--her 100 acres entered by Isham East and
surveyed by him, but patented by her, as I read it. This must be the
100-acre grant she received earlier, then in Livingston County, the tract
surveyed in 1805 ("The Kentucky Land Grants" by Jillson).
How was she related to Isham? To John (I think it likely he was her son-
--he was 16 and under 26 in the 1810 census). To the Elizabeth East who
married Robert Lyon in Caldwell in 1812?
And how were these related to Joel East and his wife Rebecca Leffan, who
were in Caldwell County as early as 1812 or maybe 1814, I believe? Joel
died there in 1817 and his widow Rebecca is said to have married John
East (his second marriage apparently). At least some of these Easts had
migrated west from Laurens County, South Carolina.
I have a note from years ago to the effect that Mary East deeded land to
Garrett Gray---C-320. I assume Deed Book C. Can anyone tell me briefly
what that record says?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Mon Jan 20 10:29:31

LAMB, GUESS, LUCAS,
MORSE,
Does anyone know where I might find the 1860 Caldwell
County census book to purchase? The Hopkins County Genealogical Society
does not have this as stated in the Western Kentucky Publications. Thank
you. Linda Lamb Monticelli
