BARTON
Need
sone info ,about the BARTON family .Story is they owned a ferry service
between, KENTUCKY and ILLINOIS. Supposedly owned an ISLAND of several
hundred acres, on the OHIO RIVER between the two states. The BARTONS
were from LIVINGSTON COUNTY KY
The Island was considered a part of Ill ,however the state of KY ,enacted
legislation claiming that, the river ,from bank to bank. was part of
Kentucky and won the case ,and the Ilsand became part of KENTUCKY Can
anyone tell me when this happened?
Also a flood that covered the ISLAND and when the water went
down.KENTUCKY claimed that since there was no island for that time. the
"new island " belonged to the State of KY. and so won the law suit. Any
one hear of any of this?
Would appreciate a come back on it if you do

SMITH
Hi ...my name is Bill Luehmann. I have been trying to find anyone who served with my father (who died in 1984) in the Army during World War 2 in the Sixth Armored Division. I know that his best friend in the Army was a man he called Smitty (from Kentucky). From my research, I have reason to believe that he was William J. Smith, who was killed in action. When he was killed, my father was promoted to take his position as a mortar squad leader.
I have found that William J. Smith was a resident of Livingston County. I was wondering if there was any chance that someone could ask an old-timer or two whether they might remember Mr. Smith. What I am trying to find out is whether William Smith was a member of the 50th armored infantry battalion, and if so, what company he served in. I know from pictures that my mother provided that she (my mother) and Mr. Smith's wife (her first name was Anita) roomed together when they were out in California during my father's (and Mr. Smith's) training in 1943. I would also like to find out whether Mrs. Smith remarried, and if she is still alive. I am sure my mother would like to get in touch with her, if she is.
Thank you very much for your time...anything anyone could provide would be
greatly appreciated.

KUEBLER
My great grandfather, Gabriel Kuebler (sometimes spelled Kiebler), lived
on the river and operated the ferry to Golconda for many years in the

third wife whose last name was Alliston, but I am not sure of the
spelling. Gabriel's second wife died in 1884, so this mystery lady came
into the picture soon after. My grandfather was the last child of wife
2, who died when he was a babe and he had wonderful memories of his
stepmother who I am searching for. Rumor is that she had children with
old Gabriel, so she must have been of childbearing age in the 1880s.

Looking for
parent and family data on William Carl Johnson, born October 11, 1843 in
Sand Springs, Livingston County, Kentucky. No information has come
forward regarding his parents or siblings. William moved to Missouri in
his younger years as he was married to Mary Catherine Fry in Racine, MO
in 1867 and they raised their family of 13 children in the Shoal Creek,
Newton County, Missouri area. Were there a large number of Johnson's in
Livingston County? Is Sand Springs area still on the maps? I am
interested in the history of the area during the time William would have
been there (1800 to 1870 or so.) Thank you! Judy

MURPHEY
I am seeking information on Edward Murphey and wife Martha who were
listed in the 1850 Livingston County, KY census of Smithland. The entry
was dated 12 September, 1850. He was a "Flat Boat Pilot", age 34 and she
was 21. Also in the household were Elizabeth McCracken and her four
children. Two weeks later, on 26 September, Elizabeth and her four
children were again listed, this time in the Caldwell County Census. They
were living on Eddy Creek near a mill which had been built on land
previously owned by a Murphy family. I'm descended from Elizabeth and
would like to know if there was a family connection between Edward Murphy
and the early Caldwell County Murphys, and/or between Elizabeth McCracken
and the Murphey/Murphy families. Fri Dec 13 16:57:20 2002

Searching for any info of my ggg grandparents married in Livingston CO,
KY 1807.
Richard Davis, est birth 1780's somewhere in VA possibly. He was said to

KY
Polly Dunbar. No birth or death dates. Family notes say she was from
Antrim, Ireland.
Listed in Old Kentucky Grants South of the Green River, Richard Davis is
shown to have quite a few grants. Under Virginia Land Grants Kentucky
Land Office, Richard Davis,Jr is shown to have 400 acres granted in
Livingston CO.
The same year land was granted toi a Nathan or Nathanial Dunbar also in
Livingston CO. Could this be Polly's family? There is also an 1800 tax
list showing a William Dunbar in LIvingston CO.
Apparently the Davis and Dunbar families were closely linked. I would
appreciate any information on Richard Davis and Polly Dunbar and/or their
parents, siblings, etc.

This Jeff King is my uncle and his children my cousins. This I know for
a fact from stories I have always heard in my family. He was a
commercial fisherman and lived on a houseboat on the river in Smithland,
Kentucky. He got sick and had to move to a better climate and the
community took up a collection for him to be able to travle. Where he
went I do not know , neither do I know what happened to his childten. I
am interested in hearing from anyone who can tell me anything about him
and his children. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

County.
They had four children, Mary Belle, Mamie Duke, Sam Albert, and Roman
